Early in the 2016 season, San Francisco Giants management announced that the team reached a new multiyear agreement with Brandon Belt that will keep the first baseman with the club through 2021. Belt, a 28-year-old from Nacogdoches, Texas, was drafted by the Giants in the fifth round of the 2009 amateur draft and has spent his entire professional career with the team.

In his five previous years in MLB, Belt hit 63 home runs, chalked up 236 RBIs, and maintained a respectable .271 batting average. He played 137 games last season and recorded career bests in several hitting categories, as well as finished as a finalist for the Golden Glove. Under the new contract agreement, Belt will receive $72.8 million dollars over five seasons starting in 2017.
